Welcome to Our Site. Let’s Get Reacquainted

It's been a while. Here's a reintroduction to our publication.

Hi readers!

I’m Alisha Allison, the founder and Editor-In-Chief of The Pop-Litical Buzz, your new go-to for news, commentary, and features about pop culture, politics, and when they overlap.

I started this publication because of my love for all things pop culture and politics. I know that pop culture has the potential to crossover with politics and captivate an audience. And you, my lovely subscribers, deserve articles that reflect that and look at what’s happening in both spaces thoughtfully.

A little about me: I grew up in Queens, NY, and currently live further north in the Hudson Valley. I attend grad school for journalism. I have experience writing entertainment news, covering local and national politics, and interviewing public figures like actress Lana Condor. My bylines have appeared in Her Campus, City & State New York, and Hell Gate (where I am currently interning).

If you are familiar with TPB, it is likely because you were subscribed to the Substack where I didn’t post much. Honestly, this inactivity happened because balancing trying to start a publication, classes, internships, and familial obligations is a real juggling act, but I promise I haven’t given up.

I am recommitting myself to doing this. My love of pop culture and politics hasn’t wavered. Far from it. I saw everyone talking about Taylor Swift’s wedding, already have tickets for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and covered primary night in New York City last month.

I want this publication to be what YOU want to read, but to meet the big goals I have in mind for The Pop-Litical Buzz, I will need a team. I already have my managing editor, Valerie Conklin (who does copy editing too) along for the ride. She attends J-School with me and her work has been published at Bay City News, Local News Matters and NBC.

Interested in joining the team? You can apply to be a writer here, or send a pitch to editors@popliticalbuzz.com. If you are interested in creating social video content (like talking heads or narrated videos) for our site, email editors@popliticalbuzz.com. The time commitment is up to 15 hours a week. Since this outlet is independent and just starting out, these roles are voluntary.

Also, a couple of things are changing from the original plan I laid out on Substack, like the Weekly Buzz. It will now be delivered to your inbox on Monday. Don’t unsubscribe to the Substack yet, as we may use it. More updates are coming soon.

Thank you for supporting me and being here from these very humble beginnings.
